Greg Rousseau is a young, talented defensive
end for the Buffalo Bills. He showed signs of improvement in his second season
in 2022, doubling his rookie-year sack total and raising his pressure rate.
With Von Miller coming off of a knee injury, Rousseau has the opportunity to be
Buffalo's top pass rusher in 2023.
CBS Sports has named Rousseau as an "under-the-radar"
player to watch in 2023. They cited his talent, youth, and the fact that he
will be expected to lead the Bills' pass rush as reasons for their optimism.
Rousseau will need to stay healthy and continue to develop his
pass-rushing skills if he wants to reach his full potential. However, if he can
do that, he has the potential to be a dominant force on the defensive side of
the ball for the Bills.
Here are some of Rousseau's strengths as a pass rusher:
·
He has a long wingspan and good size, which gives him an
advantage when trying to get to the quarterback.
·
He is athletic and explosive, which allows him to generate a lot
of power off the edge.
·
He has a variety of pass-rushing moves, which makes him
difficult to block.
Here’s how CBS Sports broke down Rousseau:
In his second year, Rousseau doubled his rookie-year sack total
(from four to eight) and raised his pressure rate to 15.2%, good for 13th among
141 players who had at least 250 pass rush snaps last year. Rousseau is
immensely talented and just 23 years old. With Von Miller coming off a torn
ACL, Rousseau must lead the Buffalo pass rush.
Rousseau still has some areas where he can improve, such as his
hand usage and his consistency. However, he has the potential to be a very good
pass rusher in the NFL. If he can reach his full potential, he could be a key
part of the Bills' defense for years to come.
